Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s initiative as Chief Minister in 2001 to establish Genome Valley to promote cutting edge research in life sciences paved the way for the development of Covaxin by Bharat Biotech.
Recalling this, Naidu tweeted on November 27, 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic that inflicted havoc on India and across the world.
“Delighted that @PMOIndia will visit Genome Valley in Hyderabad tomorrow to review the production of COVID-19 vaccine. Proud that our vision to integrate strategic foresight into policy in the 90s has put India ahead in the race for COVID vaccine today. #GenomeValleyOfIndia
‘Genome Valley’ is a first of its kind state-of-the-art R&D cluster in the country that houses over 150 Life Science Cos. In association with various stakeholders, our Govt envisioned & built a dedicated park back in the 90s at a time when biotech was not even heard of.
Genome Valley is an example of vision translating into employment & infrastructure that has attracted some of the best talents from across the spectrum of life sciences. Developed by Bharat Biotech housed in the Genome Valley, ‘Covaxin’ bears testimony to this fact.
